SKIN REJUVENATION THERAPY
Skin rejuvenation therapy encompasses various treatments designed to restore a youthful appearance by improving skin texture, tone, and elasticity, and reducing signs of aging and sun damage. These treatments are broadly categorized based on their mechanism and invasiveness.
Exfoliation and Resurfacing
These therapies aim to remove the damaged outer layers of skin to reveal smoother, healthier skin underneath and stimulate cell turnover.
Chemical Peels: A chemical solution is applied to the skin, causing controlled exfoliation and the shedding of damaged cells. Peels range from superficial to deep, addressing fine lines, pigmentation, and acne scars.
Microdermabrasion: A minimally invasive procedure that uses a spray of fine crystals or a diamond tip to mechanically abrade the superficial layer of the skin. It improves skin texture, reduces fine lines, and helps with minor age spots.
Dermaplaning: This treatment uses a surgical blade to gently scrape off dead skin cells and "peach fuzz," improving skin texture and product absorption.
Laser Resurfacing: Uses concentrated light beams to remove damaged skin layers and heat the underlying dermis, stimulating collagen growth. Ablative lasers (e.g., CO2 and Erbium:YAG) remove the outer skin entirely for more dramatic results and deeper wrinkles.
Non-ablative lasers (e.g., Fraxel, Clear + Brilliant) are gentler, stimulating collagen from within with minimal downtime.
Injectables
These treatments involve injecting substances into the skin to address wrinkles and volume loss.
Botulinum Toxin (Botox, Dysport, Xeomin): Temporarily paralyzes specific facial muscles to prevent contractions that cause dynamic wrinkles (e.g., crow's feet, frown lines).
Dermal Fillers: Injected to restore lost volume, plump lips, and fill in static wrinkles and folds like nasolabial folds and marionette lines. Common fillers use hyaluronic acid (HA) like Juvéderm and Restylane.
Collagen Stimulators: Injections like Sculptra (PLLA) and Radiesse (CaHA) encourage the body to produce its own collagen over time for gradual, long-lasting results.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: Uses the patient's own growth factors from their blood to promote healing and rejuvenation, often combined with microneedling.
Energy-Based and Combination Therapies These use various forms of energy to heat deeper skin layers, tightening the skin and boosting collagen and elastin production.
Microneedling (Collagen Induction Therapy): Tiny needles create micro-injuries, triggering the skin's natural healing and collagen production.
Radiofrequency (RF) Therapy: Uses heat to target the dermis and subdermis, enhancing collagen remodeling and tightening skin.
RF Microneedling: Combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy for a powerful dual effect that addresses both texture and laxity, suitable for all skin tones.
Focused Ultrasound (Ultherapy): Delivers targeted ultrasound energy to deep foundational layers of the skin, including the SMAS layer (which is addressed in surgical facelifts), to lift and tighten.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy: Uses broad-spectrum light to target pigment (melanin) and hemoglobin, effectively treating sun damage, brown spots, redness, and vascular lesions.
LED Light Therapy: Low-level light therapy using different wavelengths (red, blue, infrared) to calm skin, treat acne, and stimulate collagen.
